Directorate General of Forces Intelligence is one of the leading intelligence organization in South Asia. Its primary role is to provide essential intelligence to the government of Bangladesh regarding forces and national interests. The Headquarters of DGFI is located in Dhaka Cantonment. This organization is headed by a Director General (DG) in the rank of Lt General/Major General. The DG is directly responsible to the Honorable Prime Minister of Bangladesh. The DGFI has different bureaus headed by Directors of the rank of Brigadier General and equivalents. There are 19 Detachments located at different locations all over the country. These detachments are headed by an officer of the rank of Colonel/Lt Colonel. Two categories of officers are serving in this organization i.e. officers from armed forces and civilian officers. The armed forces officers are seconded from Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force and the civilian officers are directly recruited. The organization has the capability to operate both domestically and internationally. Some bureaus of this organization work jointly with all law enforcing agencies including the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and other intelligence organizations of the country. It also maintains operational links with all related ministries and agencies of other countries.
